Enable .gif-format for personal profile image?

Hi, I'd like to be able to use this .gif-formatted image as my profile's picture:

Some other possibilities are:

• *Shimmering galaxies
  *Galactic mergers
  *GRB animations
  *Black hole formation in a binary system
  *Binary system mergers
  *Gravitational waves illustration :)
  *Cosmic time line animation

Of course, personalized animations like the above example would probably be numerous, I suppose...
