GUIYANG, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the world's largest single-dish radio telescope, will be available for global service from April 1.
The National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the operator of the telescope, confirmed Monday that scientists across the world can make online appointments for using the device for observation from April 1. An allotted timetable will be available by Aug. 1.
Jiang Peng, chief engineer of FAST with NAOC, said in the first year of the telescope's opening to the global scientific community, about 10 percent of the observation time will be allocated to foreign scientists.
"Chinese scientists also need to comply with the online application formality," Jiang said.
Located in a deep and round karst depression in southwest China's Guizhou Province, FAST is believed to be the world's most sensitive radio telescope. It started formal operations on Jan. 11, 2020.

That's a good thing except

That's a good thing except for the idea that China seems to copy all data that happens in their Country to Government Servers for their own use as well. To me that means anyone wanting to use the dish will have to be aware of that and perhaps scale back the amount of data they provide when requesting a scan here or there. Hopefully over time things will be worked out so that any discoveries will be announced and shared by the researchers and not the Chinese claiming THEY did it.

We no longer have the use of Arecibo so we have a choice. Use China's FAST going in with both eyes open or not to use China's FAST. I think the "use" option is the better choice.
I am still trying to understand the catastrophic failure of Arecibo. Was it a maintenance/funding issue. To my thinking it should never have happened.

BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the world's largest single-dish and most sensitive radio telescope, will officially open to the world starting Wednesday.
Astronomers worldwide can visit http://fast.bao.ac.cn/proposal_submit to submit their applications for observations, said the National Astronomical Observatories under the Chinese Academy of Sciences in a statement.
All foreign applications will be evaluated, and the results will be announced on July 20. Observations by international users will begin in August.
The statement noted that FAST will provide its research facilities to the world with a more open attitude, offering more observation options for the international astronomical community.
The project will contribute Chinese wisdom to the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity, and strive to promote international sci-tech development and the progress of human civilization, said the statement.
Since it started operation, FAST has provided stable and reliable services. It has found 300 pulsars and made breakthroughs in fields like fast radio bursts, a type of powerful radio wave in the sky. ■

.. And with the enormous computing capability of governement controlled phones there could be some speculation of the 'found signals' in the 'random' recorded space-listening data.
That was a bit harsh - but One might still question everything we/he/she/ are doing right now 24/7.
