Hi,
I have three computers running e@h. There is an issue running Intel GPU tasks on one of my laptops. See this still unresolved thread: http://einsteinathome.org/node/197524&nowrap=true#130399.

My question: is there a way in e@h preferences to turn off all intel gpu tasks for just that particular machine? The e@h preferences screen seems universal, applying to all my machines.

Thanks

einstein@home Preferences for one vs. all my computers

The only way I know how to do this is to create a separate "location" in BOINC/Einstein Preferences. The default location is "Home". Go to "Your Account", and in each set of preferences, ("Computing", "Community", and "Einstein", create "Work" preferences.) Once done, in BOINC, select the "Projects" tab, then in the left column select "Your Computers", when your browser comes up with the page list of your machines, select the machine in question that you want to change, click "Details", and at the bottom of the page, change "Home" to "Work" and click the "Update" button next to it. In "Work" preferences make sure you have deselected "Intel GPU". Now you're all set... :-)

There are 4 choices of preferences "work", "home", "school" and "default".

If for example you assign "school" to one of your machines you can define within the "school" preference which WU types that machine will run. You can also turn off/on which GPU type associated with that preference/machine. You can select a side by side presentation of all of these preferences if you wish to compare them all at once by clicking a "switch view" link near the top of the page. Toggle the "Use Intel GPU" for that preference. I think this will do what you want.

When you change a preference, any preference you will not see the changes immediately until you PC contacts the E@H servers for new jobs. Also any jobs you had downloaded will continue to process until complete unless you "abort" them.

This might be a Stupid

This might be a Stupid Question..But,Since I already Discovered one Pulsar... How do I set my Preferences so that My Main Double GPU, with a High Speed SSD, I-7 PC, that Is running Clean on ONE Very High Speed Internet Service and does Not Interfere with My other 5 CPU's ONLY PC's, That are All running on a Completely Different Internet Provider. All 6 Computers are at the Same Location..... In What order do I Set my Preferences.and How ?, for My 5 CPU Computers without the GPU but CPU Only, Without in the slightest Bit disturbing My Main GREAT "GPU" Computer Mixing GPU and CPU on that one Fast PC..Remember Same Location and 2 Seperate Internet High Speed Providers.. Thanks much for a Reply A.S.A.P. I am Tired of Running another Project when I Love E@H.... Thanks Much.

Just set up different

Just set up different locations in the prefs like the others said, it doesn't have to be different physical locations as the computers could be stacked on top of each other but assigned to different locations in the prefs.

You could for example keep the GPU machine at it's current location and assign the CPU only machines to on of the other pref locations.

I do this for almost every project I run, I use the default for cpu only crunching, the work setting for gpu only and the school and home settings for various setting within those broad categories. I often also change the percentage setting changing it to zero so I only get work when another project is not sending me any work. I only have one router and one network, but with 15 different pc's I need to use the settings to make Boinc work for me my way.

Thanks Guys, For your

Thanks Guys, For your Imput..However It looks like I Screwed Myself..Years Ago I Renamed Each PC with a Different NAME and COMMON Workgroup.. My Super GPU PC Also was Renamed but All PC's Reguardless Whether GPU or CPU All Have the Same New COMMON WORKGROUP and Different Name.... I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT THE DEFAULT FOR ALL MY PC'S ORIGIGINALLY WERE NAMED OR WHAT THEIR DEFAULT WORKGROUP WAS...Then I Will Rename them "Home" ( If Allowed ), "Work", and "School"... I See under E@H Preferences, ( Which I was originally talking About - BUT NOW YOU GUYS SET ME STRAIGHT TO EACH PC ), That under the First E@H Default it was set to "Home" with a Choice to setting it to a LINE, ( -- ), Default "Home", "Work", or "School" ...Can I Keep That First one With it's Renamed Different NAME and DIFFERENT COMMON Workgroup. AND ONLY Change it to the LINE, ( -- ),.. For My ONLY FAST GPU Unit Now, without desturbing it's E@H Postion by Accidentenly Adding CPU Projects ?? Then if Someone would tell me what the Different Settings were for the Normal PC For their Name and Workgroup if Any...... I Don't know what the "LINE", ( --), Means in the 1st Default E@H Preference Means I Hope it means "ANYTHING" I want to Call it, Which I have and Wish to Maintain, Along withe the RENAMED COMMON WORKGROUP....or Does it have to be "HOME"...... I Hope I haven't confused you all, Just myself :-) Thanks Jesse

What you name your computers

What you name your computers and what workgroups you assign them to does not matter for setting different prefs for them here at Einstein.

Just go to your account and under computing preferences opt to "Add separate prefs for ..." any one of home, work or school will do. Then set it up for how you want to run your CPU only machines.
After that rinse and repeat for the Einstein@home preferences, but choose the same location as for the computing prefs.

When done setting all the prefs follow the link from you account page to view computers on this account. In the list click on details link for one of your CPU only machines and at the bottom of the page change it's location to match the newly created prefs. Rinse and repeat for all of your CPU only machines.
When done the new prefs will take effect once the machines contact the server or you open Boinc and in advanced view and on the projects tab select Einstein@home and then on the left click the "Update" button.

You can leave the GPU machine at the default location, the one named "---".
Then in the future just remember to edit the right set of prefs if you want to change anything.

Finally a friendly note: Try to refrain from using ALL CAPS as that's normally considered shouting and please try to divide your post into paragraphs to make them easier to read. You're sure to get more help if you do. =)

Hi All, I hope I'm not

Hi All,

I hope I'm not misunderstanding and/or confusing the issue here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jesse, are you confusing the computer name, and the network Workgroup name with the Einstein location assignment?

The actual name assigned to the computer, and the assigned network Workgroup name, have nothing to do with Einstein preferences. The computers you are using for Einstein tasks do not need to talk to each other, therefore each computers name and assigned Workgroup do not matter in the slightest. They only need internet access to get work tasks and report results.

In the Einstein preferences, the "locations" are just ways to assign a different set of preferences for Einstein work to each computer if you so desire.

With that being said, at the network level, each computer should have a different name assigned in the network preferences in your operating system.

If I'm off base just tell me to shut up... :-)

Just to add one detail to

Just to add one detail to Phil's helpful clarifying post, regarding terminology, around the BOINC world some places the 4-way categorization we are talking about is called "location" and sometimes it is called "venue".

But it is never called workgroup.
