I thought you would like this video about Toyota's focus changing from electric vehicles to hydrogen powered cars from just 7 days ago, titled: "TOYOTA CEO: THIS NEW ENGINE WILL END ELECTRIC CARS," SAYS TOYOTA CEO ABOUT HIS CREATION", ~ 31 min long.

The German were splitting water in Hydrogen and water looking for 'heavy water' for the nuclear reactor they were building, remember the movie "The Heroes of Telemark" where they sunk a ferry, killing a bunch of civilians that had barrels full of heavy water before the Germans could use it. The Germans were using electricity to split the parts they wanted out.
I went to Australia in 2017 and there was some guy on tv talking about opening 'gas stations' in the desert using solar power to split the hydrogen out and then store the hydrogen underground in a tank so people could drive up and fill their cars, trucks and tractors with hydrogen. He was going to use a well to provide the water to split. I don't know if it ever happened but it was a pretty cool idea to me.
