I'm new to this project, so my opinion might not hold much weight, but I'll be damned if I don't push for what I think is best!
If I'm honest with myself, I like to show off. Sure, your credit number alone is cool and all, but I love a good badge. Asteroids@home gets most of my computing power simply because I want to get that next level badge!
It's a great way to motivate some users to keep computing! For those who don't like badges or don't want them, just ignore them. It wont' affect your experience in the slightest.
As a newcomer, I can definitely say I would be a lot more motivated to help this project out if I got a shiny badge for doing it.
Call me selfish or superficial, but that's just who I am.
Aesthetic pleasure to have a beautiful badge seems forgotten. For me there is a lack and nothing draws my attention to Einstein @ home when I want to select a project.
I usually calculate about numbers but also about other projects.
Hi (I’m French and I don’t like Google Translate, so…)
I agree all points of view, but adding a badge system can only be benefic.
Some Boinc users are choosing projects by affinity, but not all. If a project grant users by giving badges (however it’s calculated), this project can easily catch new users.
It’s mathematical.
More users crunching to get the next level badge = more Work Units calculated in the same time = faster research.
Actually, I am crunching 2-4 weeks per year for Einstein. With badges, i think increase this time to 20-24 weeks, maybe more.
For guys saying “I do not need thisâ€, “I want to turn it offâ€â€¦ I just say that. Think about the project benefic.
For another how say that the CPU/GPU evolution would make easily to catch the next level badge. If someone win the last level badge, the team project can include a new level.
And, some guys have big CPU Farms. I only have 8 Cores and 1 GPU. It’s not a problem, because winning badges is a personal challenge.
It’s “I want to get the next level†and not “I want to get more badges than this userâ€
Some projects, like Prime Grid and World Community Grid, have badges by sub-project.
18 levels for Prime Grid by sub-project, calculated on total credit for each sub project
7 levels for WCG by sub-project, calculated on CPU time for each sub project
One thing I miss from SETI Classic was the Milestone Certificates.
each Certificate had a different image (and it was based on the number of workunits completed)
I understand why a projects user participation awards did not transfer into BOINC.
BOINCS computational certificate feels like a End of Service Award unless you remeber to print it out when you pass that particular milestone. (e.g 500K cobblestones)
Although they are just an expression of a certain number at a certain point in time. The acknowledgement of the milestone is satisfying.
Nice if included but been around long enough not to mind.

No news about badges ?

Hello is anyone out there on Earth listening to this popular request?
I hope the admin/project scientist/leader is listening.
Like everyone before me have said, having badges will add motivation and may increase participation in this project.
Thank you.
Maybe the project admin is

Maybe the project admin is awaiting for someone to propose the badges. Here is my suggestion. Simple and straight to the point.
Badge theme: use Einstein famous picture with tongue out.
Here is what a bronze, silver and gold badge would look like.
Bronze
Silver
Gold
Can certainly expand with more colors. I can provide the badges if the project admin can set this up.
